H-TEN (and T-Ray) on Substack
March 31, 2024

Hi everyone. I have been using Hanshin Tigers English News (H-TEN) as my platform for nearly 10 years now. Can you believe it’s been that long? Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I stop and think about all that I have experienced since embarking on this adventure:

  • Featured in several newspapers and TV programs
  • Writing a column for a Japanese sports paper
  • Writing newsletters and tour guiding for JapanBall
  • Presenting and emceeing (in Japanese) for Tigers fan events
  • Attending several huge games, like the biggest comeback in team history and the first pennant clinch in 18 years
  • Meeting dozens of current and former baseball players, including several legends and Hall of Famers

To this point, I have been using Patreon as a platform to help support the long hours of work that I have put into this website. I am so thankful for all the people who consider my work worth paying for. You all are awesome and I do not take any of the support for granted! THANK YOU!

I will keep Patreon up, but it will not be providing any more writing per se. In the past, I was translating articles from the monthly magazine, creating my own unique data samples, and more… but now, instead, I am moving onto a different platform:

Substack is a place where people can come and read my content for free, or they can pay to get additional articles and such. For the time being, I am pleased to announce that twice monthly, I will be releasing a new chapter of the book that I wrote to celebrate the Hanshin Tigers’ amazing 2023 season. it will include a lot of background information that you can only get if you read the Japanese newspapers and magazines, and will also have brief player biographies of the guys who contributed to the team’s success in 2023.

After every chapter has been posted on Substack and read by subscribers, I will be turning it into an e-book that will be available to all who wish to purchase it. I will also continue to offer exclusive bonus material (not necessarily Tigers-related) on Substack moving forward.

That reminds me – I plan on using Substack for everything related to my life and my thoughts, and not limiting myself to the Hanshin Tigers, which this website (and Patreon) do. Obviously, I will continue to follow the team and you can check in here or on the socials, but I want to expand what I do beyond the borders of the baseball diamond.

Feel free to subscribe to me on Substack, receive weekly (or so) articles in your inbox, and then if you feel like supporting the work or reading the e-book before it is published, then move on up the paid tier!

Thanks as always for your support over the years, everyone!

Trevor

Does this mean you will not posting on this current website?

    • T-Ray

I will still post here. Scores, news, stats will be here. My own thoughts and writing pieces will probably all make their way to Substack. Still not 100% sure, though.

Is there any chance you’ll publish a physical copy of your book? I’m sure I’m not the only one who’d like one on my bookshelf.

I definitely would like to! I have to figure out how to do that, though…

        Small print jobs use POD
        Print on Demand

Thanks for the advice! I will look into it. I should also apologize because starting a new job has kept me busy and I have not been able to write as much as I would like to… hope everyone sticks with me! I will get stuff out there, I promise!
