Koyo Aoyagi was supposed to pitch on March 25. Because he tested positive for Covid-19 on March 17, the Tigers had to change their plans. I’m not trying to say that the reason for our rough start is all on him… but tonight, he threw his first game of the year, and it was a gem. Eight innings against the powerful (first-place) Giants, but he held them to just a single run in the first inning. After that, he waited patiently for the offense to come through, and it did. Smugano gets his first loss at Koshien in nearly 4 years, and the Tigers’ six-game losing streak is no more. Our Opening Day pitcher is back! The season has finally begun!
