The Tigers got hold to just 4 hits on this day, but it was not all that important, given that they were handed 8 free passes in the first five innings. Two of their hits produced the runs they needed, and three of the walks scored those runs. The Giants made it close at the end, nearly stealing away the lead off of Suguru Iwazaki, but Joe Gunkel’s solid six innings plus two dominant relief innings (Masaki Oyokawa in the seventh, Robert Suarez in the ninth) prevented the Giants from pulling even. Series ends for the Tigers with two wins and a tie. They are now four games ahead of the Giants and await the Swallows game at night to know whether they sneak into first or stay in second.
