This was an important game to win once again, as the Giants completed their sweep of the Dragons earlier in the day. Well, all three imports did their jobs well today. Jerry Sands brought home the second run of the game with a single, Raul Alcantara pitched a clean 8th, and Mel Rojas Jr gave the team a little more breathing room with an RBI single in the 8th. (Also, on the farm, Jefry Marte hit a home run in a big win over the Orix Buffaloes.) The series ends on a positive note, and though our lead is just a single game, we head into Tokyo Dome with some good momentum for a key series against… the Yokohama Baystars? Yes. Not the Giants. Lessgooo!

Why is Marte on the farm? And what were the black ribbons that some players and umpires were wearing on their arms the other day?
Marte (along with Suarez) went back stateside for a bit during the Olympic break. When they returned they had to be quarantined for a spell, which meant they need a fine-tuning before they can play on the top squad. It should not be too long before he is back on the top team.
The black ribbon was to commemorate the death of Yusuke Kinoshita, Chunichi Dragons pitcher who died suddenly at age 27 last week.
