Game 34 vs. BayStars – Ace Dominates Again

Game 34 vs. BayStars – Ace Dominates Again
May 15, 2018

There really isn’t much to talk about in this game. The Tigers were desperate to break out of their season-long 4-game losing streak, and had their mighty ace on the mound to try to get it done. He was about as good as ever, and was fairly close to completing the game on his own. Losing streak over. Tigers are still perfect this season against the Yokohama DeNA BayStars.

Starting Pitchers: Randy Messenger (5-2, 2.11 ERA) vs. Satoshi Iizuka (0-2, 2.91 ERA)

Yoshio Itoi doubled for his second hit of the night, and ultimately the bases loaded themselves thanks to some shaky pitching. Pinch hitter Fumihito Haraguchi came up to the plate, and the first pitch he saw resulted in our only runs on the night. I don’t know that I have ever seen a broken bat hit that was going foul but sliced back into fair territory like this. Still, I’ll take it!

Hanshin 2, Yokohama 0

Randy was absolutely humming along in this one. Unfortunately, he gave up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in the ninth. His lone blemish left him with this line: 8.0 IP, 107 TP, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 R. Rafael Dolis came in to face the heart of the order, but got the two BayStars imports swinging at cheese, and then Tsutsugoh flied out to center to prompt thousands of rubber balloons to fill the Koshien sky. Losing streak over.

Final Score: Hanshin 2, Yokohama 1

WP: Messenger (6-2); SV: Dolis (12)

Team Record: 17-17-0
